1. en honor. Cuando significa ‘como homenaje a alguien o algo’, el complemento que expresa la persona o cosa homenajeada va introducido por la preposición de: «En honor de tan distinguido huésped, se organizaron grandes festejos» (Leyva Piñata [Méx. 1984]); aunque es menos recomendable, también puede usarse la preposición a: «El festín en honor a nuestro gordito y feliz soberano se celebraba en una gran jaima» (Vicent Balada [Esp. 1987]). Cuando significa ‘en atención, o por respeto, a alguien o algo’, se usan indistintamente ambas preposiciones: «Don Luis Ortiz, quien en honor a sus anfitriones no lloró» (LTena Renglones [Esp. 1979]); «En honor de la verdad, jamás he sido dado a lisonjas» (Chávez Batallador [Méx. 1986]).
2. hacer honor. ‘Demostrar ser digno de algo’. Lleva un complemento con a: «Verduguez hace honor a su apellido» (MtzSalguero Combate [Bol. 2002]).
3. hacer los honores. ‘Agasajar a alguien’ y ‘manifestar aprecio por algo’. Lleva un complemento con a: «Azálea y Píndaro hacían los honores a los recién llegados» (Aguilera Pelota [Ec. 1988]).
